SINCE becoming a finalist in the WA Music Awards for their song Lost Romance, the John Read Band has gone from strength to strength.
With the release of their second album Free, the band’s success story is set to continue during the Nannup Festival over the Labour Day weekend, joining performers such as Canadian artist Michelle Shocked and Sydney-based singer-songwriter Lior.
Now in its 20th year, the Nannup Festival attracts a growing number of visitors, with the John Read Band to deliver their unique style of music during performances on the Saturday and Sunday nights.
Singer/songwriter Read said the band had found its stride during the past couple of years.
“We were stoked to get the call to perform at the Festival, appearing alongside greats in the Australian and international music industry,” he said.
“I can’t wait to catch up with Lior, who I have supported as a solo artist in the past and to represent Mandurah at such a significant music event.”
Nannup Festival organising committee artistic director Phaedra Watts said the John Read Band would offer something different to the festival this year.
“We are really looking forward to welcoming the band to the festival; they are a great band and have a huge following down south,’’ she said.
“We expect to have the crowds jumping.”
Read has been described as a quality musician with a genuinely original sound, delivering an atmospheric acoustic blend of styles from folk and blues to rock.
He has recently finished a whirlwind tour of Adelaide and leaves for a solo tour of the UK in May.
