FORMER Safety Bay resident Cassie Skinner is letting her hair down all in the name of art.
Skinner has taken on the role of Rapunzel in the Roleystone Theatre’s production of Into The Woods.
She said this incarnation of Rapunzel in the popular Stephen Sondheim musical was “a bit of a nutcase” at times.
“That makes her really fun to play,” Ms Skinner said.
“Rapunzel is a very sweet and naive character because she has been locked away in a tower by the witch that raised her from birth, making the character know very little of the outside world.”
Into The Woods blends various familiar fairytales with an original story of a baker and his wife attempting to reverse a curse on their family so they can have a child.
It is all done with musical numbers, following characters from Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and Cinderella, and the consequences of their various wishes and quests.
“I’ve always loved the Brothers Grimm fairytales and this show is a masterpiece that adds a twist to everyone’s favourites,” Ms Skinner said.
“I also have a great love for Stephen Sondheim because his music is extraordinary.”
Involved in theatre from age seven, Skinner has previously performed in Little Red Riding Hood, The Sound of Music and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street at Roleystone Theatre.
Into The Woods plays at Roleystone |Theatre at 8pm, April 9, 10, 14, 16, 17, 21, 23 and 24.
