Carolyn Turner, general manager, Leukaemia Foundation WA
ON behalf of the Leukaemia Foundation in WA, I thank all who participated in and supported the World’s Greatest Shave 2012.
Tens of thousands of brave Aussies signed up to shave or colour their hair to help lessen the impact of blood cancer by taking part in this year’s campaign.
As the Foundation receives no ongoing government funding, funds raised for the World’s Greatest Shave will help meet the increasing demand for our support services that see one Australian diagnosed with a blood cancer or a related blood disorder every 46 minutes.
Sadly, every two hours, someone loses their life to blood cancer.
Each year, the Foundation supports thousands of people and their families by providing free services including: information, emotional support, transport and accommodation for regional families to relocate closer to city hospitals.
We also invest millions each year into research to improve treatment and find cures for blood cancer.
This year, we set our biggest fundraising target at $1.9 million.
Thanks to all of our supporters, we have now raised a record-breaking amount in WA and have achieved our goal.
For the 11,500 Australians projected to be diagnosed with blood cancer or a related blood disorder this year, your readers’ support of the World’s Greatest Shave will make all the difference.
