FURTHER to the report headlined “Fined parent calls for better school parking” (Canning Times, March 27), the lack of parking at Ranford Primary School isn’t the only issue here.
I have no qualms about the ranger policing safety of the parking schemes at schools, but he has to have the knowledge of the laws and to be fair to all involved.
The area where I parked is a drop-off/pick-up zone where the driver is to remain in the car.
On numerous occasions people have parked in this zone and exited their car to walk their children to class.
It is not a safety issue parking in this area.
However, the ranger who fined me did not fine the woman who had parked in the same drop-off zone in which she committed two offences.
She also got out of her car and walked her child to class but she parked facing the opposite direction of the flow of traffic (which is an extreme safety hazard, and also illegal).
When I phoned the Canning Rangers they confirmed the ranger who fined me had not known it was an offence to park opposite the flow of traffic and he believed that it was acceptable for the woman to park there because she had a passenger that remained in the car.
