Stay clear of trouble in Bali

WE’VE been going to Bali for more than 20 years for holidays with the family. There are all ages in our family and none has ever had any trouble there.

The children (teens, young adults) aren’t perfect but seem to steer clear of accepting drugs off the streets offered to them repeatedly.

That part of Bali has been going on for years and we know the cops are dodgy to a certain degree, so I can’t understand a 14-year-old buying a packet of pot off the streets when it is known not to do that type of thing.

It’s all over the TV and other media about Schapelle Corby and the Bali Nine, so unless the youth had an out-of-body experience at the time I can’t understand it.

I feel sorry for him and his family because the Indonesian authorities will drag the case out.

There is a lesson to be learned by this case. Don’t let your 14-year-old children walk around Bali by themselves. I don’t let my 14-year-old walk around Bali by herself and it’s not because she’s a female: it’s because anything can happen to them in a foreign country.

I wonder why no mention of the dealer who sold the drugs to the boy. If the police were there to see the buy, what happened to the dealer and why have the reporters there not asked That question. Embarrass the police hierarchy by filming the dealers in action with the police turning a blind eye.

Seriously !!!! why would you take a boy/girl to Bali who has a drug past and put them in harms way -this is something that all parents should think very carefully about before they buy that ticket . I know everyone will howl with protest but - is it /was it worth it ? I think that every body feels very sorry for the parents and the boy - will others learn from this?

Yes, and that's exactly why if you have teenage kids it's much safer and better to stick to some of the very beautiful locations we have in this country. Teenagers aren't toddlers, you can't keep them tied to your apron strings - so if you're going to a place where it's not safe to let them out of your sight for a second, why the hell bother? That's not a holiday in my book.
