M. Simms, Ballajura
WE’VE been going to Bali for more than 20 years for holidays with the family. There are all ages in our family and none has ever had any trouble there.
The children (teens, young adults) aren’t perfect but seem to steer clear of accepting drugs off the streets offered to them repeatedly.
That part of Bali has been going on for years and we know the cops are dodgy to a certain degree, so I can’t understand a 14-year-old buying a packet of pot off the streets when it is known not to do that type of thing.
It’s all over the TV and other media about Schapelle Corby and the Bali Nine, so unless the youth had an out-of-body experience at the time I can’t understand it.
I feel sorry for him and his family because the Indonesian authorities will drag the case out.
There is a lesson to be learned by this case. Don’t let your 14-year-old children walk around Bali by themselves. I don’t let my 14-year-old walk around Bali by herself and it’s not because she’s a female: it’s because anything can happen to them in a foreign country.
