ALCOA’S Marrinup Nursery has won three prestigious 2010 WA Nursery and Garden Industry Awards.

The company received Best Propagation Award, Best Community Award and Best Medium Production Nursery at the awards, designed to acknowledge the efforts of business and individuals in the industry.

The nursery, located near Dwellingup, plays a vital role in the company’s mine site rehabilitation, providing propagated plant species.

Marrinup nursery manager Dr Ian Colquhoun said he was honoured to receive the Best Propagation Award.

“We are particularly proud of our ability to propagate plants that have never been propagated before,” he said.

“Our nursery also propagates dieback-resistant jarrah seedlings that are provided to local conservation groups so they can grow them as part of their programs to rehabilitate disturbed bushland.”

The win puts the nursery in the running for the national Nursery and Garden Industry Australia Award presented in April.

I would be even more impressed if Alcoa could educate the Current Gosnells Council on the importance of Trees in our Environment, and directly assist with the repairs to disturbance to trees on Hume Road.
But, yes, Alcoas achievements in rehabilitation are Greatly Appreciated.
