THE Hills community is grieving the loss of environmental and people power advocate Mike Davies, who died after a seven-month battle with cancer last week.
He successfully fought Shire of Mundaring plans for inappropriate development and founded two strong lobby groups in the Stoneville and Parkerville Progress Association before pursuing his greater interest in the environment by forming Save Perth Hills Inc.
SPH president Rusty Geller said Mike was a great friend and good family man, who loved nature and awakened the Hills community to the large suburban developments threatening the area by organising major campaigns and negotiating important agreements.
He said Mr Davies was also integral to the appropriate Hills development bill, soon to be introduced to Parliament by East Metropolitan MLC Alison Xamon.
SPPA chairman Greg Jones said Mr Davies did a lot of work in the community and a lot of people were saddened by his passing. Mr Davies was farewelled in a memorial service at Bellevue yesterday. He leaves behind a wife and daughter.
