No rest after a retirement

WHEN it was time to retire from her job as a legal secretary six years ago, Bibra Lake resident Kaye Southern decided volunteering would be a fulfilling way to spend her time.

She works with the Rotary Club of Cockburn, Bibra Lake Primary School and the Pound Watch Animal Rescue in Banjup.

After three-and-a-half years as a member of the Rotary Club, she has become its first female president.

Ms Southern was handed the club’s charter by past president Peter Hodgson on June 18.

She said she was honoured when the club approached her to be its president and that she received a lot of support from other members.

“Volunteering gives me a sense of satisfaction,” she said.

“If I wasn’t doing it I’m not sure what I’d be doing.”

Ms Southern helps Year 2 students at Bibra Lake Primary School with maths one morning a week.

She also does the office work for Pound Watch Animal Rescue.
