Call for Budget funds to be spent now

MANDURAH MLA David Templeman claims the State Budget has again overlooked Mandurah and the Peel region.

Mr Templeman said unspent funds from the Royalties for Regions program would now be diverted into a Future Fund.

“Instead of saving this money the Government should be looking at investing it in infrastructure projects which will create jobs and further investments,’’ he said.

Mr Templeman said the $223 million of unspent Royalties for Regions money should be spent on projects such as more affordable housing,

He also wanted more funding for community services to provide better transport options for people who needed access to specialist services in Perth.

“In this budget there is no new money for the environment when our Peel waterways are desperately in need of protection” he said.

“Money going into the Future Fund will be worth nothing in 2025 compared to what it is worth if it is spent today.

“It’s not OK for the Premier to outfit his new offices and build sports stadiums while people in Mandurah can’t afford to pay their rent and will be going without heating this winter because of electricity prices.”
