THE City of Armadale will be one of the first organisations slapped with the Carbon Tax fee as of July, according to the Federal Government’s carbon tax list released last week.

It is one of just two WA local councils liable for the carbon penalty, after being recognised as one of the 248 entities responsible for 70 per cent of the nation's emissions.

The City is among giant steel and aluminium companies who will pay $23 for each tonne of their carbon pollution from July 1 until they reduce their emissions.

Carbon Tax is good and bad. Forget what the rest of the world is doing we need to clean up our own back yard before we have the right to criticise other countries. I don't want to personally pay for companies who polute the atmosphere even though I probably use whatever they produce. That being said I know that which ever Australian Government is in 'Power' they are going to make me personally pay one way or the other. That's the bad part, there is no way to stop that happening. If I complain I am told that I am a voter who put them in 'Power' so put up and shut up. We do need to clean the atmosphere some how.

Bring it on I reckon! A tax on pollution is the only thing that will compel polluters to clean up their act. Meanwhile those who need subsidies will be compensated for any costs that the polluters try to pass on. It should be easy to keep track of the 248 biggest polluters who do increase their charges and meanwhile both China and India are cleaning up their act and introducing emissions trading schemes and taxes... Just google an ABC report from July 2011 and Wall Street Journal's report May 14 2012. I am proud to be Australian when I see Australia leading the way... and why should we not do the right thing just because some other god-awful polluted place is lagging behind? We're smarter than that aren't we?

What little manufacturing we have in Australia will be reduced even further, how can we possibly compete with Asian countries. Does China or India intend to introduce a carbon tax? Checkout their emissions!!!

The tax wil not reduce polution at all because we are going to be compensated for the tax , so why will we even bother to change our poluting ways .

The carbon tax is a farce. It is meant to give polluters the financial incentive to reduce their carbon footprint and so reduce the carbon tax they have to pay. However, what incentive have they to reduce their carbon footprint if they can pass the full tax onto their customers? not one iota! It doesn't cost them anything. It just becomes a tax on the consumer. Synergy for one have stated that they will pass all of the tax onto their customers. If they then do reduce their footprint in the future and pay less carbon tax does anyone believe they will reduce their charges? I for one don't. A prime requirement of the carbon tax law when introduced should have been that no company or corporation would be allowed to pass any of the tax onto their customers. Then they would have had an incentive to reduce their pollution.
