LAURA Fairclough hopes her role in an upcoming Perth film will kick-start her acting dreams.

In Redback, the Kensington resident plays Laura, one of a group of teens sent to a youth boot camp in the Australian bush.

She described the 90-minute film, which was shot in the Perth Hills, as a supernatural thriller and hoped it would resonate with audiences worldwide.

“Production was full-on and tough work but really enjoyable,” she said.

“It has more of a supernatural thriller element to it, which I think will create more of a haunting experience for audiences.

“Hopefully the film will be screened internationally and that will provide all the cast and crew with more exposure.”

Fairclough (19) has studied acting for the past five years and won the Year 12 drama prize at Mercedes College, underlying her deep desire and passion in drama studies.

She believed studying an English and psychology double degree at the University of WA helped broaden her acting skills.

“It can be difficult balancing study and acting, but I find it helps my acting, particularly psychology because I have a better understanding of different emotions and can really research my roles,” Fairclough said.

Redback also stars Luke Ledger, cousin of the late actor Heath Ledger, and Mauricio Merino from The Pacific and My Year Without Sex.
