EIGHT surfers from the Peel region head to Margaret River this weekend for a Grom Prix as part of the 2012 Telstra Drug Aware Pro.

Surf Beach Boardriders Club members Rhys O’Connor, Chris Rayner, Ethan Pugh and Brad Harrington will take to the water.

Harry McPherson, Ace Van Peer, Tyson Beardmore and Ari Stawell from Mandurah Boardriders will join them.

Supported by the Department of Sport and Recreation, the Grom Prix is an invitation event run alongside the Drug Aware Pro.

The event gives up-and-coming surfers the opportunity to compete alongside their heroes.

Providing them with inspiration in the main event is World Champion Kelly Slater and former world champions Stephanie Gilmore, Mick Fanning, CJ Hobgood and Sofia Mulanovich.

Grom Prix contenders will benefit from the regional coach trainers and Surfing Australia’s national coaching director Martin Dunn.
